Preschool Curriculum

Though religion lessons in all curriculums are based on Catholic beliefs, other religions are welcomed and respected.

Two Day Program

The Two Day program is designed for three and four year olds who will be experiencing their first preschool classroom. The curriculum for this class is designed to provide children with social opportunities that allow them to experience peer and group relationships. Daily lessons include: expressive arts, dramatic play, religion, language arts, fine and large motor skill exercises.  The Two Day Program is open to children who will turn three by Sept. 1.

Three Day Program

The Three Day Program is designed for four and five year olds who have had a previous preschool experience. The curriculum is designed around the “Kindergarten Readiness” model. This class builds on the social development with more emphasis placed on cognitive development. Daily lessons include: language arts, writing, pre-math, pre-literacy, science, religion, fine and large motor skill development.  The Three Day Program is open to children who are four by Sept. 1.

Five Day Kindergarten Readiness Program

The Five Day Program is designed for four and five year olds who have had a previous preschool experience and may be ready for more than a three day preschool program. A child must have turned four years old by September 1 to be eligible for this program. The afternoon class is also slightly longer than the morning classes, running two hours and forty-five minutes. Parents may also take advantage of the school carpool line at pickup time for the afternoon program.

Why a five day preschool class?

IHMCS along with many other schools, offers full-day Kindergarten. Five Day preschool class is a nice way to transition to all day Kindergarten including:

•  More academic focus than a traditional three day preschool class

•  Children have more time to spend on kindergarten objectives and requirements

•  Extra opportunities to practice, and also learn new skills

What will children learn in the Five Day program?

Children in the Five Day program will continue to develop their social skills and enjoy free time while also having the opportunity to learn:

•  Pre-literacy - reading, writing, letter recognition and phonics

•  Pre-math - serialization, sequence, addition, subtraction and number recognition

•  Science - cause and effect, nature, laws and theories
